National Arts Festival 2010

July 7, 2010

We are recently back in the studio after 10 days at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. Woo-men was part of the festival’s Fringe Exhibition in a show entitled Free Range Friends. We teamed up with Peter Woodbridge Illustration for a showcase of 2 and 3 dimensional comic art. This was the first time that we positioned the toys together with comic art in a public space. Through the art on display we told the story of character design and development starting with sketching from life, moving on to caricature portraits, and finishing up with the development of fantasy characters in canvas or digital paintings. Woo-men were displayed as comic scultpures in plush form.

See this article and slide show about us on Cue Newspaper’s web site. Kidult Art Will Steal Your Heart.

Hi Junia aka ms. Jones … thanks for your comment! I’m sorry to say there is no comic strip at this stage, but its a great idea and we have thought about doing it many, many times. Its a case of so many great ideas, so little time. Thanks for writing about us on your funky web site. Elaine
